Course Description: This is a one-year course to prepare youth for family life, emphasizing the application of knowledge and the development of attitudes, standards, values and skills relevant to individual and family life and nurturing. The course prepares individuals for balancing work and family roles and enhancing employability skills. Instruction includes consumer education, food and nutrition, family living and parenthood education, child development, housing and clothing and textiles.
Course Objectives:
1. Students will be able to appraise personal values and goals.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate the importance maintaining healthy relationships through the use of good communication.
3. Students will be able to gain the skills necessary to manage time, energy, and money effectively.
4. Students will be able to identify the elements and principles of design in regards to clothing and housing.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate the basics of sewing and clothing construction.
6. Students will be able to prepare nutritious meals and snacks.
