Course Description:
This is a semester course that is designed to teach students the skills necessary to make decisions and solve problems that support the developmental needs of children. Parenting roles, the role of the professional caregiver, and other careers associated with children’s needs will be examined. During the course, students will interact with children of differing age levels and learn effective communication skills when dealing with all aspects of childcare.
Course Objectives:
1. Students will be able to utilize FCCLA programs to address child development, care and guidance issues.
2. Students will be able to describe diverse roles in parenting.
3. Students will be able to analyze health concerns and needs during prenatal development.
4. Students will be able to explain developmental stages (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive.)
5. Students will be able to justify interaction choices.
6. Students will be able to distinguish health concerns at developmental stages.
7. Students will be able to identify guidelines for creating safe environments.
8..Students will be able to compare child care options.
9. Students will be able to develop skills to affect public policy related to child development, care and guidance.
10. Students will be able to research key careers in the area of Child Development.
